Okay, so I was trying to figure out what’s the lowest scoring game ever in the NFL. It’s not something you think about every day, right?
Started with a simple search. Typed in “lowest scoring game NFL” into the search bar and hit enter. I got a bunch of results, but they were all over the place. Some were talking about old games, others about more recent ones. It was a mess!
Then, I tried to narrow it down. I searched for games since the AFL and NFL merged, which I think was around 1970. That helped a bit. I found a few articles mentioning games with a final score of 3-0. Apparently, that’s happened six times in the modern era. Six! Can you believe that?
Digging Deeper
- I saw one game mentioned a lot – Steelers vs. Dolphins. It was a real snoozefest, apparently. Happened sometime after 2000, and these two teams almost went the whole game without scoring. Imagine sitting through that!
- Another one was between the Seahawks and the Bears. I think it was a Thursday Night Football game, and the final score was 6-3. Only nine points total! That’s even less than a touchdown and a field goal. Crazy, right?
Found some other random stuff too. Like, there was this college game, Auburn vs. Mississippi State, with a score of 3-2. Not NFL, but still, that’s practically nothing!
There was also this wild game between Washington and the Giants where they scored a combined 113 points. That’s the opposite of what I was looking for, but it was interesting to read about.
So, after all this searching and reading, I think the lowest scoring games in the modern NFL are the ones that ended 3-0. It’s not a common score, that’s for sure. I guess sometimes, defenses just dominate, and nobody can get anything going on offense. It might not be exciting, but it’s definitely something to remember.
It was a fun little research project. Learned a lot about NFL history and some of the weird games that have been played over the years. Makes you appreciate those high-scoring shootouts a little more, huh?
