Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… uh… what’s her name? Cameron Brink, yeah, that’s it. This girl, they say she’s good at… tennis? No, wait a minute, it’s basketball! My memory ain’t what it used to be, you know. Too many years, too many chickens to chase.

So, this Cameron girl, she’s a big deal, they say. Big deal in basketball. Played for some fancy school, Stanford, I think they called it. Smart girl, I guess, playing ball and going to school at the same time. Back in my day, we just played ball in the dirt, no fancy schools needed.
They say she was the best player in her… uh… league? Yeah, league. Pac-12 Player of the Year, that’s what they called her. Sounds important. Guess she was pretty good at throwing that ball around.
- She’s really good at basketball.
- Lots of people watch her play.
- She got hurt and couldn’t play in the Olympics.
Now, they got this thing called March Madness. Sounds crazy, right? Well, they say she was the one to watch in that March Madness thing. All them eyes on her, hundreds of thousands, they say. Imagine that! That’s more folks than we got in the whole county!
This girl, she started young, real young. Thirteen years old, and already playing against college girls. Thirteen! I was still chasing chickens at thirteen. Guess times are different now.
And her folks? They played ball too. Basketball, that is. At some place called Virginia Tech. Her mama and daddy, both of ‘em. It’s in her blood, I guess. Like me and my chickens. It’s just in the family.
And get this, her mama, she was roommates with some other basketball mama, the mama of that boy… Steph… Curry, that’s it! Stephen Curry. He’s good too, they say. Small world, ain’t it? And that Curry fella, his daddy, he’s this Cameron girl’s godfather. Fancy, huh?
So, this Cameron girl, she coulda played in the Olympics. Big games, all them countries playing against each other. But, wouldn’t you know it, she got hurt. Injured, they say. Couldn’t play. Shame, that is. All that work, all that playing, and then she gets hurt. Life ain’t fair, I tell ya. Reminds me of the time my best laying hen got snatched by a fox. Just plain bad luck.
But, she’ll be back, I reckon. Strong girl, they say. Comes from good stock. Basketball stock. She’ll be throwing that ball around again, and all them folks will be watching her. March Madness, Olympics, whatever. She’ll be there.
And me? I’ll be here, chasing chickens, watching the sun go down. Maybe I’ll even catch a bit of that basketball game on the TV, if the reception is good. But I still don’t understand why they call it March Madness, March ain’t no madder than any other month, especially when you got chickens.
So that’s the story of this Cameron Brink girl. A basketball player, a good one, they say. And that’s all I know about it.
