Butler Iron Bucks: Your Home for Tri-State League Baseball

Well, let me tell ya ’bout these Iron Bucks baseball fellas. Seems like a bunch of youngins runnin’ around hittin’ a ball and havin’ a good ol’ time. I ain’t never been one for watchin’ sports much, always too busy with chores and such, but my grandson, he loves it. He keeps jabberin’ on about these Iron Bucks and Blue Socks or somethin’.

Butler Iron Bucks: Your Home for Tri-State League Baseball

Now, from what I gather, these Iron Bucks, they ain’t no big-leaguers, ya know? They’re more like these college boys playin’ in the summertime. Summer league, they call it. My grandson says they play in some kinda Tri-State league. Sounds fancy, but it’s probably just a buncha towns nearby. They play in a place called Pullman Park. Don’t rightly know where that is, but sounds like a nice enough place to watch a game, I reckon.

My grandson, he gets all excited when they play the Blue Socks. Says it’s a big rivalry. I swear, those boys and their rivalries. Reminds me of the chickens in my coop, always peckin’ at each other. Anyway, these Iron Bucks and Blue Socks, they go at it pretty good, from what I hear. Always a close game, he says. He went to one game on the Fourth of July, all decked out in his Iron Bucks hat and shirt. Said there were fireworks and everything. Loud as a thunderclap, I bet.

  • They play at Pullman Park.
  • They are part of a summer league.
  • They have a rivalry with the BlueSox.

He keeps tellin’ me about this player or that player, how fast they can run or how hard they can hit. I just nod along, pretendin’ I understand. To me, they all look the same runnin’ around out there. But he gets a real kick out of it, so that’s all that matters. He says one time, the Iron Bucks played against some team from Altoona, and they beat ‘em twice in one day! He was real proud of that. Kept goin’ on and on about it for a week.

Now, I heard tell of another team called the New York Bucks. But them fellas, they ain’t the same as these Iron Bucks. These New York Bucks, they’re professionals, playin’ in some independent league. Not sure what that means, but it sounds serious. And then there’s this fella, Cal Ripken. My grandson says he’s a big deal in baseball, an “Iron Man,” he called him. Played for a long, long time. But he ain’t got nothin’ to do with these Iron Bucks, as far as I know. Just another baseball fella with iron in his name, I guess.

So, these Iron Bucks, they’re just a bunch of young fellas playin’ baseball in the summer. They ain’t famous or nothin’, but they seem to have a good time, and my grandson enjoys watchin’ ’em, so that’s good enough for me. He says they play hard and try their best, and that’s all you can ask for, I suppose. They’re good boys, workin’ hard and stayin’ outta trouble. At least that’s what I hope they’re doin’. Kids these days, ya never know. But baseball seems like a good clean sport, so I ain’t complainin’.

It’s good for the young’uns to have something to do in the summer, keeps them busy and out of mischief. And it gives folks somethin’ to go out and watch on a nice evening. Better than sittin’ around the house, I reckon. Though, I still prefer a good book and a cup of tea myself. But to each their own, I always say. So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to do on a summer night, go on down to Pullman Park and watch these Iron Bucks play some baseball. Might be fun, ya never know. And if you see my grandson, tell him his grandma says hello.

Just remember, they are a summer college team, not the big leagues. And they seem to be doing a good job at being good role models for the young boys, and staying out of trouble.
