A Scoreless Showdown? Has an NFL Game Ended 0-0 Before

Alright, let’s gab about this football thing, this… what they call it… NFL? Yeah, that’s it. You wanna know if a game ever ended zero-zero? Like, nobody scored nothin’? Well, listen up, ’cause I got the scoop, or whatever the youngsters call it these days.

A Scoreless Showdown? Has an NFL Game Ended 0-0 Before

Has an NFL Game Ever Ended 0-0?

Yep, believe it or not, it has happened. They say it happened a whole bunch of times way back when, like when I was just a little tyke, maybe even before that! Seventy-three times, they say. Can you imagine? All them big fellas runnin’ around, huffin’ and puffin’, and nobody scores a darn thing. Seventy-three times! That’s a lot of nothin’, ain’t it?

But hold your horses, it ain’t happened in a coon’s age. They’re sayin’ it’s been eighty years! Eighty years since the last time them fellas just stood around and did nothin’. Eighty years! That’s longer than I’ve been… well, never mind that. Point is, it was a long, long time ago. Back in 1943, they say. Before all them fancy TVs and whatnots.

  • A Whole Bunch of Zeros: Like I said, seventy-three games ended up with nothin’ on the scoreboard. Zero-zero. Nothin’ to cheer about, I reckon.
  • Eighty Years Ago: Yep, the last time it happened was way back in 1943. That’s practically ancient history!
  • Super Bowl Era: And get this, since they started this Super Bowl thingy, it ain’t happened once. Not a single zero-zero game. Guess them fellas got better at scorin’ or somethin’.

Now, they got all these rules about what happens if nobody scores. Back in the day, I guess they just called it a tie and went home. But now, they got this overtime thing. They keep playin’ and playin’ until somebody scores somethin’. They even flip a coin again if they have to! Can you believe it? All that fuss just to avoid a zero-zero score.

I heard tell they even play extra overtime periods, like ten minutes at a time. And if that ain’t enough, they keep goin’! They even take little breaks, two minutes they say, to catch their breath and then go back at it. And if they still can’t score after four of them overtimes, they flip that coin again. Seems like a lot of trouble to me, but I guess they really don’t want another one of them zero-zero games.

It makes you wonder, though. How could all them big, strong fellas not manage to kick a ball or somethin’? I mean, even I could probably stumble across the goal line by accident if I tried hard enough. But I guess back then, things were different. Maybe they didn’t have all them fancy plays and whatchamacallits they got now.

What About a Really Low Score?

Now, sometimes they score just a little bit. Like that time the Steelers, I think it was, they beat them Dolphins three to nothin’. Three! That ain’t much better than zero-zero, if you ask me. But hey, at least somebody scored somethin’. They kicked a little field goal, they said. Twenty-four yards, whatever that means. Sounds short to me, but I ain’t no expert.

So, there you have it. Has an NFL game ever ended zero-zero? Yep, it sure has, but not lately. And they got all sorts of rules to make sure it don’t happen again. Seems like a big deal to them fellas, this scorin’ thing. Me? I’m just happy if I can get a good nap in the afternoon, whether them football players score or not.

But hey, if you want to know more about this football stuff, you can go ask one of them young folks. They know all about it. Me? I’m just tellin’ you what I heard. And if I got somethin’ wrong, well, don’t blame me. I’m just an old lady tryin’ to make sense of all this modern-day craziness.

Final Score Variety in NFL History

They also say that there have been over a thousand different final scores in NFL history. That’s a lot of numbers, ain’t it? But I guess that makes sense, with all them different ways to score, touchdowns and field goals and all that. And with so many games bein’ played over the years, I guess you’re bound to get all sorts of scores. But the zero-zero, well, that one sticks out, don’t it? It’s just so… unusual. Like findin’ a hen’s tooth, they used to say. Rare as can be.

So there ya go. That’s the story about them zero-zero games. Happened a bunch, then stopped. And now they got all sorts of rules to make sure it don’t happen again. Football, huh? It’s a funny old game.
