Remembering Larry Jordan: Basketball Icon and Inspiration

Alright, let’s talk about this Larry Jordan fella, you know, Michael Jordan’s brother. Folks keep jabberin’ about Michael, but Larry, he had his own thing going on, basketball and such.

Remembering Larry Jordan: Basketball Icon and Inspiration

See, Larry, he was older than Michael, born way back in 1962. I reckon he was a big influence on little Michael, you know how younger brothers are, always lookin’ up to the older ones. Larry played ball too, not as famous as Michael, mind you, but he played. Went to college, University of North Carolina somethin’ or other, Wilmington I think they called it, then played in somethin’ called the World Basketball League. Now, I ain’t never heard of that league, but it sounds fancy enough.

They say Larry was a good jumper, real high up in the air, like a jackrabbit. Got drafted by the Chicago Express, helped them out some, even got to the finals but didn’t win. That’s alright though, winnin’ ain’t everything, it’s the tryin’ that counts, or so they say. Anyways, Larry, he played ball, that’s the main thing. He wasn’t just sittin’ around eatin’ bonbons.

Now, after playin’ ball, Larry didn’t just disappear. He got himself a job, a real respectable one, workin’ for them Charlotte Bobcats, later they changed their name to Hornets. Sounds like a bunch of bees to me, but hey, whatever floats their boat. Larry, he worked hard, climbed the ladder, became director of somethin’ called “player personnel.” Sounds important, makin’ sure they got the right fellas playin’ on the team. He’s even a businessman now too, sellin’ stuff I guess, just like half the folks I know.

Larry’s got a big family too, five kids in all, Deloris and James, bless their hearts, had a full house. Larry was the third one, got two brothers, James Jr. and that famous Michael, and two sisters, Deloris and… well, I don’t remember the other one’s name. But family’s important, you know, keeps you grounded. Family’s like a good ol’ quilt, keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

  • Larry played basketball, just like Michael
  • He played in college and professionally
  • He worked for the Charlotte Hornets
  • He is a businessman.
  • He’s got a big family

So, there you have it, Larry Jordan, Michael’s brother. He ain’t as famous, but he had his own life, played ball, worked hard, raised a family. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, ain’t it? He is more than just the brother of that there famous basketball player; he is a man all on his own.

And that Michael, they say Larry inspired him. Guess that’s how it works sometimes, older brothers showin’ the younger ones the ropes. Michael, he went on to be a big deal, one of the greatest they say. But it’s good to remember that even the big shots had someone lookin’ out for them, someone who showed them the way. Maybe Larry didn’t become the best basketball player in the world, but he still went out there and gave it a try. And that’s more than most people can say.

You know, life ain’t always about bein’ the best. Sometimes it’s about tryin’ your hardest, doin’ what you love, and takin’ care of your family. Sounds like Larry did alright by that. He wasn’t just sittin’ around watchin’ the grass grow, he was out there livin’ life and bein a good role model. Good for him, I say.

And to think some folks just think of him as Michael Jordan’s brother, not as his own person. That just ain’t right. He done made a name for himself and he has a career all his own. You can’t just look at folks and say, ‘Oh they are the brother or the sister of so and so.’ You gotta look at them as people in their own right. And Larry Jordan, he a whole dang person, that’s for sure.
