Alright, let’s talk about them Dodgers, you know, the baseball team. Some folks hollerin’ they’re wreckin’ the whole dang game, spendin’ money like it grows on trees. But is that the truth? I ain’t so sure.

First off, they went and got that Ohtani fella, Shohei, or whatever his name is. Big hitter, throws the ball hard too, they say. Cost ’em a pretty penny, I bet. Then there’s this Glasnow and that other one, Yamamoto… sounds like a fancy car, don’t it? Anyways, they got all these fellas, and folks are sayin’ it ain’t fair. Too much money, they say. Well, life ain’t fair, is it? That’s just how it goes.
Now, last year, they say the Dodgers spent over a billion dollars! A billion! That’s more money than I ever seen in my whole life. They went and got all these good players, and now everyone’s cryin’ foul. But I reckon, if you got the money, you spend it, right? That’s what I’d do if I won the lottery, I tell ya!
But is it really ruining baseball? I mean, baseball’s been around a long, long time. Folks been playin’ it since way before I was born, and I’m older than dirt. And I’ve seen things change. Used to be, you just had your local boys playin’. Now, you got these fellas from all over the world. And the money… Lord, the money’s always been there, just in different pockets.
- Used to be the Yankees spendin’ all the dough
- Then it was someone else
- Now it’s the Dodgers turn, I guess
See, it’s like this. If you got a good farm, and you wanna make it better, you go out and buy the best seeds, the best fertilizer, right? You invest. That’s what the Dodgers are doin’, investin’ in their team. They wanna win, and you can’t fault ’em for that.
And ain’t that what it’s all about? Winnin’? That’s what we all want, ain’t it? Whether you’re growin’ corn or playin’ baseball, you wanna be the best. And if you got the means, you go for it. That’s the American way, far as I can tell.
Now, some folks might say it makes it unfair for the other teams. They can’t compete, they say. Well, maybe they gotta work a little harder, find some diamonds in the rough. Can’t just sit around and complain, you gotta hustle. That’s what my pappy always told me. You ain’t gonna get nothin’ for nothin’.
And let’s be honest, it ain’t like the Dodgers are cheatin’. They’re playin’ by the rules. They’re payin’ fellas good money to play ball. And those fellas, they’re darn good at what they do. You can’t blame a fella for wanting to get paid, can ya? I wouldn’t.
And it ain’t just about the money neither. You gotta have teamwork, you gotta have grit. You can have all the money in the world, but if you ain’t got heart, you ain’t gonna win nothin’. And them Dodgers, they got some heart, I can see it.
I seen folks switch teams, ya know? One minute they lovin’ the blue, the next they rootin’ for somethin’ else. But loyal fans, well, they stay put. Like me and my tomatoes. Grew the same kind every year, best darn tomatoes you ever tasted. And that’s loyalty, ya see. Dodgers got loyal fans, they do. And those fans, they want to see a good team.
So, are the Dodgers ruining baseball? Like I said, I ain’t so sure. Maybe they’re just changin’ the game a bit. Maybe they’re makin’ other teams step up their game. Maybe they’re just doin’ what any team with that kinda money would do. Maybe it’s just the way things are now. One thing’s for sure, they’re winnin’ and that’s makin’ some folks mighty mad. And mad folks sure like to talk.
Besides, baseball is still baseball, no matter how much money’s thrown around. It’s about hittin’ that ball, runnin’ them bases, and catchin’ them fly balls. And that, my friends, ain’t gonna change.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens.
