Hey there! Today I’m gonna tell ya about them Owatonna Huskies football boys, oh boy, they sure know how to make this town proud! Every year, seems like folks around here just can’t stop talking ‘bout ‘em. They got them shiny blue and silver colors, makes ya see ’em comin’ from a mile away! Just imagine a bunch of young fellas all pumped up, runnin’ out there on the field, all wearin’ that royal blue and silver. You see them colors, and you know them’s our Huskies, and they’re ready for business.
This year, they went and grabbed the #1 seed in Section 1AAAAA, and that ain’t no small potatoes, lemme tell ya. It’s cause they ain’t lost a single game all season. Them boys sure are tough, and when they play over there in the Northstar South Maroon District, it’s like they own the place! I tell ya, people come from all over just to watch ‘em. Them Huskies, they’ve been playin’ since who knows when, but I gotta say, this year’s team is somethin’ special.
Owatonna High School, where them Huskies come from, that place got a history, ya know. They got this Big Nine conference they’re in, and Owatonna’s been known to be a real good competitor over the years. They ain’t just about football neither. They got a lotta sports teams, but boy, football’s what really gets everyone excited, ya know? And every Friday night, people grab their blankets, they get their snacks, and they pile up in the stands to cheer them Huskies on. All ya hear is “Go Huskies!” all night long!
This year they got a game with New Prague, and that’s always a big deal. Oh, last year they had one heck of a showdown with them too, it was the Section 1AAAAA championship game, and the Huskies came out strong. People round here still talk about that game, I tell ya! Now they got a chance to show New Prague who’s boss again this season, and believe you me, people will be out there in full force rootin’ for ‘em. Them stands gonna be packed, no doubt about it.
Now, lemme tell ya a little more about them Huskies. They got this fella, I dunno his name, but he’s one heck of a player, always runnin’ up and down the field faster than a jackrabbit. And then they got these big guys on the front, makin’ sure no one gets past ‘em. It’s a real sight to see, them workin’ together. That teamwork, it’s somethin’ else, ya know? You got all them fellas playin’ like one big family. And that coach, he’s out there every day makin’ sure they give it all they got. Hard work pays off, he says, and sure enough, it shows in the way they play.
Owatonna Senior High School, where all these boys go to school, they got a lotta pride in their Huskies. They’re part of the Minnesota State High School League, and that’s a big deal round here. It’s not just about the games neither; they even got a hall of fame where they honor the best of the best every year. Makes ya proud just thinkin’ about it, don’t it? They got history, they got spirit, and they sure got some mighty fine players.
But, ya know, it ain’t all about winnin’. Them boys, they learn a lot out there on that field, things like workin’ together, bein’ strong, and givin’ it their all, no matter what. Whether they’re goin’ up against New Prague or any other team, them boys show up, and they play hard. Folks round here say, “Once a Husky, always a Husky,” cause it sticks with ya. The pride, the hard work, the way they pull together, it’s somethin’ special. And ya know what? That’s why folks here in Owatonna love them Huskies football boys so much. They make us proud, every single game.
