Alright, listen up, y’all. This here’s about them football games, the NFL, you know? Week 1, they call it. Big doings, lots of yelling at the TV. So, they got this thing, a “coverage map,” they say. Sounds fancy, but it just means which game you gonna get on your TV, depending on where you live. Don’t ask me why they can’t just show all the games everywhere, that’s just how they do it, them city folk.

Week 1, that’s a big deal, everyone’s excited. You got your Sunday games, and then there’s that Monday night one too. Sunday, that’s when most of ‘em are on. They split ‘em up, see? Like, if you’re over in, say, California way, you might get one game, but us over here in, I don’t know, Georgia, we get another. It’s all about them TV stations and who gets to show what.
Now, I hear tell there’s a map, a real map, with colors and all. Shows you who gets what game. I ain’t seen it myself, never been good with maps. But my grandson, he showed me on that computery thing, a phone they call it, but it’s more like a tiny TV. Anyways, it showed all these different colors, each color for a different game. So, if you’re in the blue area, you get the blue game, see? Makes sense, I guess, if you’re into that sort of thing.
- Sunday, that’s when the real action is. Lots of games, all at the same time, more or less.
- Then there’s that Sunday night game, that’s always a big one. They put the good teams on then, the ones everyone wants to see.
- And Monday night, that’s the last one. A good way to end the week, if you ask me, something to look forward to after a long day of, well, whatever it is you do.
They got all these channels too, NBC, ESPN, I can’t keep track. It used to be so simple, just a few channels, you knew what was on. Now, it’s all complicated. My husband, he just wants to watch the game, he don’t care about no maps or channels. Just give him some snacks and the remote, and he’s happy. Me, I like to know what’s going on, even if I don’t understand half of it.
This map thing, it changes every week, they tell me. So, what you get this week ain’t what you get next week. Keeps you on your toes, I guess. They say it’s all about “regional broadcasts” and “markets.” Sounds like something they’d talk about at the market, buying and selling chickens, but I guess it’s different with them football games.
So, how do you find out what game you’re gonna get? Well, you could look at that map, if you’re good with maps. Or you could just turn on the TV and see what’s on. That’s what I usually do. Or ask your grandson, he seems to know everything about these things. Kids these days, they’re so smart with their phones and their internets.
Anyways, that’s the gist of it. Week 1, lots of football, different games for different folks, and a map to tell you what’s what. Don’t get too worked up about it, it’s just a game. Unless your team loses, then you got every right to be mad. That’s what my husband always says, anyway.
And don’t forget, they always talking about this game or that game being on “prime time”. Sounds fancy, right? Like it’s some special time. But really, it just means it’s on when most folks are home from work and ready to watch TV. They put the big games on then, the ones they think everyone wants to see.
So there you have it, that’s all I know about this here coverage map thing for week 1. It ain’t rocket science, but it’s good to know, especially if you got a favorite team you’re itchin’ to watch. Just remember, turn on the TV, check the colors, or ask your grandson. You’ll figure it out. And if you don’t, well, just grab a snack and enjoy whatever game they give ya. It’s still football, after all.
